I’ve been thinking about Bunheads a lot, but I haven’t watched it yet. I even had to ask my boyfriend to DVR it for me.
Me: I need you to record something for me.
H: Okay, what is it?
Me (whispering): Bunheads.
H: What?
Me (still whispering): Bunheads.
H: Buttheads?
Me: BUNHEADS!
Anyway, obviously it would be better for everybody if there was more diversity on television. But can we all agree that it’s bonkers that the only time people complain about the lack of diversity on a show is when the show’s creator/writer is a woman? As usual, men only have to represent themselves, while women have to represent all women. That being said, you may remember that I once complained about the lack of diversity on Gilmore Girls, but Bunheads just started. Give it some time. Hopefully it won’t also feature a ton of drunk driving or terrible extras.
None of this is even remotely my point, though. My point is Amy Sherman-Palladino is BACK, and she’s bringin’ the hats with her!
Interview found on EW
I’m enjoying the show so far. Small town + ballet + Amy S-P’s wit and humour make for a great combination!
Sometimes (or always) the dialogue and delivery make it sound exactly like Gilmore Girls, but that’s not a problem for me. Sutton Foster and Kelly Bishop are fantastic!!
Yeah, I have no problem with a show that sounds exactly like Gilmore Girls!
THANK YOU. I totally agree with you on this one, Kerry. After one episode Shonda was able to take issue with the show. ONE. EPISODE. A television show is not it’s pilot. (Parks and Rec taught us that.) I’m not going to say that casting four white females for the ballerina roles wasn’t a missed opportunity, but at the same time, I think that the way Shonda Rhimes handled her frustration (a passive aggressive tweet? come on now!) was childish and unprofessional. If she wanted to address that issue, and it’s certainly an issue, she should have addressed the climate of television at large in a more thoughtful manner because it’s a conversation that needs to be had. I get being frustrated and needing to vent, but a public Twitter account is not the right platform, especially when you’re a prominent figure in television and feel your daughters deserve positive role models in the media.
And scene.
Yes! The only pilot I’ve ever seen that was actually perfect was Arrested Development. Amy Sherman-Palladino and her hat just need some time to figure things out!
So, can I just say that “Bunheads” is maybe one of the worst titles out there? Like, ever? I actually really like the show (surprisingly, since the patter of Gilmore Girls drove me crazy), but everytime I tell someone about it, I have to spend at least 30 seconds explaining the stupid title. Guh.
Agreed! I feel like such an idiot saying “Bunheads.” Ugh. Shudder.
