I don’t offer a lot of hair or beauty advice on this blog, and for good reason. I’m so far from being an expert, and most of the time I’m kind of a mess. Believe it or not, though, I once had good hair. The voting public told me so! I won Best Hair in my senior year which, if you’ve seen me lately, seems like it might be a joke.
This mop on my head is basically always a mess. It’s curly, but not the kind of curly that can just air dry and go.* And in the summer, the last thing I want to do is deal with this monstrous hair scarf. So I’ve been wearing it up almost every day and trying to find new updos that are quick and easy for a girl who can barely do her own hair. Enter the milkmaid braid!
They’re super easy, look good on almost everyone, and keep your neck cool. I really didn’t think they would look good on me (I have a big head and lots of feminine styles just look weird on me), but they turned out really well. I even go t a compliment from a girl who works at my favorite burger place, which is how I know they were truly a success. Here are couple of tutorials I found:

*I probably CAN do this with my hair, I just don’t know how to style it. Any curly hair tips or recommendations for knowledgeable curly hair stylists in Columbus, please let me know.

My hair is like a cross between being wavy and curly, but I’ve found that it helps me to:
1. Comb it out before you wash it, but once it’s washed, touch it as little as possible. I towel it off and shake my head around, but don’t comb it again.
2. Use spray gel. I either use it while it’s still wet, or once it’s dry, I’ll get my hands wet and spray the gel on my hands and use it to smooth out some of the frizz.
3. I also don’t blow dry it, but if you have a diffuser, apparently you can use that. (I don’t have one, obvs.)
Me an my hair still have issues, but those things have helped somewhat. I wanted to braid my hair today but nothing looked good. I’ll probably have to later though since I’ll be outside. Good luck!
I’m trying to do that whole “not touching” thing with my hair while it’s drying. It seems to be working so far, but for some reason it’s really hard for me. Kind of like how you’re not supposed to open the oven when baking, but I always REALLY WANT TO.
i have curly hair, and here’s what i do:
-wash it once a week, only, with sulfate free shampoo
-condition daily
-i use miss jessie’s curl creme which is AMAZING. i also like curls.biz creme brulee creme. i find gels are too sticky and make my hair look wet…no me gusta
-comb it out in the shower with a wide tooth comb
-never blow dry
-PLOP: check it! http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/curl-products/to-plop-or-not-to-plop
The plop thing. Oh my God. I’ve never seen this before and I’m DEFINITELY going to try it. Thanks!!
