Wednesday Link Party

maya angelou quote

So guys, who watched the Oscars? I know that I promised to spend more time learning about feminism and less time worrying about pop culture feminism, but damn. I wrote an entire post about my feelings on Seth MacFarlane before I realized that the internet really does not need another opinion on him and deleted it. There are people out there who said what I want to say in a far better, more eloquent manner (see: many of these links). What I will say, quickly, is that there is real value in examining a joke from someone else’s point of view. If you are a man, consider how you would feel about something as a woman. If you’re white, think of how that joke might seem to a person of color. There is never, ever any harm in opening your mind to other people’s experiences. This week I’ve been disappointed to see a lot of people I respect(ed) on the internet steadfastly refusing to even entertain another persons’s opinion.

In short, barf. But it’s link time, so let’s celebrate!

Another week, another reason to love Eudora: this post on Beyonce’s documentary is killer.

One perspective on that tweet from The Onion. And another one. Worth thinking about.

How to Conquer The Worst Work Day Ever on HelloGiggles

Shameless self-promotion: I’m on the Freelancers Union blog!

Lauren encourages us all to get to work because she is always right.

In case you somehow haven’t seen this Jennifer Lawrence/Jack Nicholson GIF yet, please check it out. I can’t stop watching it.

Chase is still drawing his clothes, and we still have wildly different lifestyles for people who grew up in the same home. I rarely have any idea what he’s talking about, and I’m sure he’d say the same for me.

And let us close with this video of Cher winning an Oscar for Moonstruck. Her speech is humble without being self-deprecating, and as usual, she’s beautiful. She is wonderful and perfect and she has curly bangs. God bless her.
